South Birmingham Businesses

I'm indebted to Geoff Thompson for allowing me access to his extensive archive of photographs of Birmingham businesses. I think the pictures of long lost local shops are priceless and are sure to stir some memories!  Please get in touch if you have a story to tell about any of the shops, pubs or garages pictured on these pages.

The photographs were originally taken to record advertising hoardings and signs. This explains the marks on some of them. However, I don't think these marks reduce the impact these pictures make and I hope you agree. They cover a period from the late 1940's upto the late 1960's.

I very much hope to visit many of the locations shown to take modern views of the scenes today. This will take some time so please bear with me!  To see if a picture has a modern view just hover your mouse pointer over it.
